THE MOVIES By Dean Cooke, 4 RAR/NZ
After the battalion finished operations in Phuoc Tuy Province, the main body returned to Australia while Delta Company remained. We moved to Vung Tau after a short stay on SAS Hill. While there, we had plenty of leave and an abundance of cheap beer at the base. On one occasion a mate and I had been drinking heavily and we decided to watch the open-air movie Cpl Mick Kennedy was showing. I had a strong urge to relieve myself so I thought the projector box was as good a place as any. Mick didn’t think so and he threatened me with a charge. I told him to get stuffed and he promptly placed me on a charge. I was marched before our company OC, Major Taylor, and as a Lance Corporal was given the option of demotion or fine. I took the fine.
