A platoon came into contact with a number of enemy soldiers in northern Phuoc Tuy Province near the Courtney Rubber Plantation. The scout of the forward section had initiated the contact; the rest of the platoon fanned out and went to ground. The forward section came under heavy return fire from the Viet Cong for about five minutes until the enemy melted back into the jungle and disappeared. As the firing abated, a voice was heard to inquire from platoon HQ, “Do you need a medic up there?’ Someone replied, “Bugger the medic. Send up some shithouse paper.”
